Event accommodation
A temporary building that does not have to be a disposable building.
The first truck arrives at an empty field carrying screw piles and the level-zero frame nodes that will form the base of the building.
The piling machine and survey crew follow. Using lasers and positioning jigs, they place the piles precisely and ensure that the pile heads are level and correctly spaced. The level-zero nodes are then secured on top, and the accommodation and service frames begin to rise.
By the time the first accommodation cassettes arrive, the cells are ready to receive them.
Most of the frame nodes have seen many concerts. Some are covered in stickers and graffiti, but none of that will be visible once the festival’s smart outer cladding has been fitted around the frame.
Soon the festival begins, and the ExoSett building becomes a temporary home for hundreds of performers, crew and visitors.
A few days later, it is quiet again.
The cladding is removed, the cassettes are taken away and the frames are dismantled. The level-zero nodes are among the last components to leave. At the next event, some of them may be used at the top of a building rather than at its base.
Finally, the screw piles are withdrawn and the clean-up crew restores the field.
Nothing remains but muddy footprints.
This story illustrates how an ExoSett system might be used. Actual implementations would require project-specific engineering, detailed design and any necessary regulatory approval.
What this story illustrates
An ExoSett building may be deployed for only a few days without being lightly built or disposable. While present, its frames provide a robust structural, access and service system.
When the event ends, the building separates again into reusable components. Its cassettes, frame members and nodes can go on to form different buildings at different sites. Components do not retain fixed roles: a node used at the base of one building may be used at the top of another.
The outer appearance is also temporary. Cladding suited to one festival can be removed without changing the underlying structural components.
With an appropriate removable foundation system, the building can leave without permanently occupying or substantially altering the site.
