A successful ExoSett building will be the result of thoughtful, project-specific design.
The physical components of the ExoSett system provide a flexible foundation, but they do not by themselves define a complete building. Designers must bring those components together while addressing responsibilities that extend across the building as a whole.
These responsibilities will vary with the building’s purpose, scale, location and regulatory context. They include critical subjects such as fire safety, utilities, structural performance, environmental control, accessibility, installation, maintenance and operation.
The Design section explores these building-wide considerations, the principles that should guide them and some of the options available to designers.
Fire safety must be considered across the complete building rather than assigned to any single ExoSett component. A layered strategy should address ignition, detection, fire and smoke spread, escape, structural stability, firefighting and recovery.
