Central atrium
A central atrium is a shared space formed between two or more ExoSett buildings.
The surrounding buildings face inward, with their service frames opening onto the central space. A shared roof can then turn the space between them into an enclosed part of the wider complex.
How it works
The simplest arrangement places two buildings opposite one another:
Accommodation frame — service frame — atrium — service frame — accommodation frame
The same principle can be extended to three, four or more buildings arranged around a shared centre. The resulting plan may be triangular, square, polygonal or irregular, depending on the site and intended use.
The inward-facing service frames form the active edge of the atrium, providing circulation, stairs, lifts, walkways, bridges and entrances around it.
The atrium may be used as an entrance hall, internal street, winter garden, dining area, meeting place or another shared facility. The surrounding accommodation can continue to change while the atrium remains the common centre of the larger complex.
