ExoSett component

Column

Columns are the vertical structural members of an ExoSett frame.

Each column connects one frame node to the node above or below it. Together, the columns transfer the weight of the building, its cassettes and their contents down through the frame to the foundations.

How it works

Accommodation cassettes do not bear directly upon the columns. Their loads are transferred into the frame nodes, which then distribute those loads through the columns and beams.

Columns may vary in size, section and material according to the height, loading and intended use of the building. Steel sections are a likely starting point, but other suitable structural materials may also be used.

Because columns are connected through standardised frame nodes, individual elements can be installed, removed, inspected and reused as the building changes.
